Assistance to Youngstown, Ohio for summer utility bills, A / C

Financial assistance for utility bills will be available from Thursday.

YOUNGSTOWN – The Ohio Developmental Services Agency and Mahoning Youngstown Community Action Partnership (MYCAP) have a plan to help eligible Ohio residents stay cool during the summer months.

The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis program provides eligible assistance to Ohio residents to pay an electric bill or homeowner assistance with central air conditioning repairs.

This program also provides fans and air conditioners. It takes place from Thursday to September 30.

Programming will begin Monday for those calling the appointment line at 330-778-2992.

Walk-in people for those who need help transferring a service, new service, or reconnecting, or those whose PIPP recheck has passed, can schedule appointments limited to the same number.

The Summer Crisis program helps low-income households with a member aged 60 or older, or a household that can provide medical documentation indicating that cooling assistance is necessary for a member’s health, have received a diagnosed with COVID-19, have a disconnection notice, PIPP fault, have been turned off, are trying to establish a new service on their electric bill, or require air conditioning. The conditions can include diseases such as lung disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or asthma.

Customers must provide copies of the following documents:

  • Photo ID for all ages 18 and over.
  • Copies of their most recent energy bills, pending account numbers or bulk fuel bill.
  • A list of all household members and proof of income for the last 30 days or 12 months for each member.
  • Proof of US citizenship or legal residency for all household members; current social security cards, birth certificate, passport, registration on the electoral roll, permanent visa, naturalization papers.
  • Proof of disability (if applicable).
  • Social security number verification for all household members.
  • Documentation from the doctor indicating that cooling aid is necessary for the health of a member of the household (if there is not a member of the household over the age of 60).

Electrical reconnection customers must pay the reconnection fee of $ 35 and provide the receipt or confirmation number.

Last year, 1,169 families in Mahoning County were helped under the Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program.
