The recently released mental training program was designed to keep athletes in a healthy state of mind to avoid common pitfalls associated with competition. Among the topics presented are ways to maintain a competitive mindset without causing undue mental stress. These strategies are important for long-term success in an athletic career.

Recently, world-renowned gymnast Simone Biles pulled out of the Olympics after she was able to recognize the negative effect the stress of competition had on her. In her statement, she cited the general state of mind of the team and the coaches as a major reason for the withdrawal. While this decision is certainly the right one, it is a prime example of the toll an improperly tuned psyche can take on an athlete or, indeed, an entire team.

PsychEdge classes don’t claim to be able to solve the large-scale issues that led Biles to his decision, but they can most certainly help athletes on an individual level. As any athlete knows, changes at the individual level can affect the whole team, and by developing a positive attitude through these classes, athletes can also pass that on to their teammates.

Classes focus on the importance of overcoming performance anxiety and keeping a cool head during competition. This focus is because an athlete who tries to maintain a high success rate without giving the body and mind the rest they need can suffer from burnout, depression, or even physical injury.

Classes are taught by Coach Sarah Greene-Falk. She has spent the past 15 years dedicated to the field of sports psychology and over that time has developed a deep understanding of the mental demands of a rigorous sports career. She works personally with each client to ensure they receive the help they need to stay happy, healthy and positive in whatever sport they choose.
