The facility’s vocational skills program organizes the graduation

The Home Builders Institute held its graduation ceremony at its Fort Stewart Training Center on March 25. The event celebrated and recognized 10 graduates for their achievements.

The graduation was well attended by the soldiers, family members, Director of Human Resources, Thomas Allmon and members of the Transition Assistance Program.

Transitioning soldiers received OSHA 30 certification and additional certification in carpentry and electrical.

The guest speaker for the event was Lamar Smith, Chairman and Founder of the Lamar Smith Group. Smith was noted as the past president of the Georgia State Home Builders Association. He thanked the soldiers for the sacrifice in service and country. He told the graduates that the National Association of Home Builders and HBI had trained and equipped them for a career in the construction industry. Smith explained how great the demand for construction is and he reassured graduates that they will help fill shortages in the field of construction and home building.

He summed up his talk by providing them with some simple rules for how to survive in good and bad markets.

Maintaining a professional/personal life

Report to work early.

Anticipate what is needed next.

Appointment essential.

In your personal life, don’t smoke, drink or use drugs.

Finally, don’t get divorced or get into debt.

Smith told graduates that if they followed these rules, they would be successful and likely to become very wealthy in the construction business world. Execute/achieve your goals. All of the graduates received jobs or job offers and some of the graduates remained in Southeast Georgia for professional careers.
