Vote for Livingston’s Daily Athlete of the Week (April 11-16, 2022)

Between spring break and the gloomy weather, the spring sports season got off to a slow start.

Each team has finally opened its season, but some have only played one or two games. Some teams didn’t get a chance to play last week.

Such is the nature of spring sports in Michigan.

There were still good performances last week during weather breaks or in sports that can be practiced in all conditions.

Voting is open until 3 p.m. Wednesday for Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week. Vote early, vote often.

Sophie Daugard, Howell athletics

Daugard showed the range to excel in the 100 to 400 meter distances helping Howell win the 400, 800 and 1600 relays in the Lansing Catholic relays and a double encounter against Plymouth. She also finished second in the long jump in every competition, clearing 16ft 8.25in against Plymouth, a distance that exceeds the additional qualifying standard for the state’s Division 1 competition.

Winston Lerch, Brighton Golf

Lerch shot 74 to tie for second place in the season opener Sentech Services Invitational on April 11 and shot 75 to tie for sixth place in the Green/Orange/Gold/Black Invitational at Kensington Metropark.

Aidan Liedeke, Charyl Stockwell baseball

Liedeke struck out 15 in 5⅓ innings in a 2-1 win over Pinckney, allowing only one fielding single. He has 26 strikeouts in 11⅓ innings in wins over Division 2 teams Williamston and Pinckney.

Bo Lockwood, Hartland Lacrosse

Lockwood came within one assist of the national record by delivering 15 in a 23-4 victory over Northville. He also scored twice. He had two goals and three assists in a 17-10 loss to defending Division 1 champion Dublin Jerome from Ohio. He has 16 goals and 31 assists in five games.
